Student Teaching Practicum
Throughout my 16-week student teaching experience in State College Area School District, I had the opportunity to develop lesson plans and units for a diverse student population. During my time at Park Forest Elementary, I planned and taught physical education lessons to students from Kindergarten to Fifth Grade. As each student only had physical education once a week, I valued the importance of quick transitions, fun activities that maximized activity time, and simple assessments that displayed student learning; in many of my lessons.
Following my practical experience at the elementary level, I further developed my planning and preparation throughout my 8-week placement at State College Area High School. My time spent at the high school, consisted of developing lessons and teaching 9th grade health and physical education classes. My daily schedule at the high school consisted of teaching health classes in the morning and teaching physical education in the afternoon. Through daily communication with my cooperating teachers, I was able to develop and effectively incorporate my lessons into the 9th grade curriculum.
Below are a number of lessons and a unit plan that I developed over the course of my student teaching experience. Through daily reflection on my lessons, I made necessary changes and altered my instruction accordingly, in order to meet the needs of all students.

Digestive System Lesson
Below is a middle school health lesson for the Digestive system. This lesson brings out the creativity of all students, as they demonstrate an understanding of the organization and function of the Digestive system. This lesson was taught to a 7th grade class at Mount Nittany Middle School in State College, PA. Also listed below are the objectives, standards, health content area, content descriptors and sub-descriptors for the lesson.
Cognitive Objective: Students will be able to identify the different parts of the digestive system and the function for each by the end of the lesson.
Grade: 7th
Standard:
10.1.3. B - Identify and know the location and function of the major body organs and systems (Digestive System)
Content Area of Health: Body Systems/Digestive System
